A bit of history first;
We lived up in the rolling hills of Roleystone for 8 years, on a huge half an acre block which was beautiful to reside in, but a real pain to maintain. We had fires up there a couple of years ago, and I will never forget the shock I felt, when the fireman came around saying "leave, or prepare to defend your home". My husband was at work, my children had to be evacuated from their school, and my sister was with me (thank goodness) as we stayed all day, watering down the house, and packing my families valuables just in case we had to leave. It was really scary, though gratefully the fire was able to be got under control before it came any closer to us.
Another issue that bothered us, was there just wasnt enough young kids living in the area. Playdates were a 20 - 40 minute drive for my girls and the school itself didnt even offer a full high school education, so we knew that the girls would have to travel to and from prospective schools. Roleystone, I guess was more of a retirement area with the average home owner up their being in their late 40's and early 50's. So after much consideration we decided to move.
I dont know if my friends in the USA are aware, but Perth has had a real hike in median house prices over the last 18 months, increasing over $120,000 and my DH and I were very lucky to find a home, just before the prices skyrocketed. Straight away we werent happy with the house itself, but in re-sale consideration it was a great place to buy as it offered 4 bedrooms, two bathrooms, study and a wonderfully huge pool. School for my children is only a 1.5km walk and our business is located in the next suburb over which saves my DH a huge amount of travelling time, not to mention fuel.
Any back to the present....
Weve been looking at our options for about the last 4 - 6 months or so and had come to the conclusion that we had to build - basically so we could get what we wanted... One of the biggest factors for us, is that we wanted to stay in the area we were (there was only three suburbs we would consider moving too) and that we had to have quite a large block as my DH wanted a huge shed, (in his spare time, he works on restoring cars, which he then proceeds to race) and I wouldnt budge on not being able to have a pool for the girls. So the search was on...
Going back now about a month, we came across a block that suited us, had enough square meterage for all the things we wanted to place on it.. so I rang the real estate agent that was listed. Unfortunately... the same day I rang, another offer was accepted. Not too matter, we placed our names with her, in case any more blocks that size came available so she could give us a call.
A couple of Wednesdays ago, I had a list of prospective blocks to go and view, and the DH and I were in the car, when good old Mum comes running out with the portable phone. You could have knocked me over with a feather - it was the same real estate agent that we had left our name with, over a month ago saying that the original block we wanted to purchase was back up for sale as finance had fallen through for the other buyers. Well my DH and I jumped, and jumped quickly.. Within the week, our offer had been accepted, and our finance was given the pre-approval!
So now, even though I dont have a new home as yet on it... I have some new land!!!!!
Let the fun begin!
